About Audyssey
Audyssey designs and develops innovative audio technologies that accurately reproduce studio recordings, movies and live performances. Our technologies solve problems caused by room acoustics, small speakers and inconsistent volume levels. The result is clear and accurate sound that gives you a better audio experience.
What we do
The first Audyssey technology, MultEQ, was developed after years of research by USC professors, audio industry pioneer Tomlinson Holman and audio signal processing researcher Chris Kyriakakis, along with Dr. Sunil Bharitkar and Philip Hilmes. MultEQ equalizes and improves audio systems by solving one of the most critical problems in sound reproduction: the negative effects of room acoustics. The groundbreaking MultEQ technology was first embraced by same home theater market leaders and initially licensed into home theater receivers in 2004. Other companies quickly embraced MultEQ and today hundreds of home theater systems, televisions, automobiles, studios and cinemas offer Audyssey technology.
Audyssey continues to focus on research and development to create innovative audio solutions that tackle acoustical problems. Our technologies resolve low volume audio issues, extend speaker performance for deeper bass, expand surround sound to 11 channels and provide pre-set equalization for different environments. Each technology makes listening to music or watching movies and TV more realistic with deeper bass and better imaging by delivering the best and most accurate audio experience possible.
Today, millions of people enjoy Audyssey in their home theater systems, televisions, recording studios, automobiles and movie theaters.
What’s next ?
Audyssey currently works with television and home theater manufacturers, movie theaters and car companies. We believe our technologies can improve any audio experience, and that all audio can benefit from customized volume leveling, optimized speaker drivers, and reduced distortion. So we will continue to design innovative technologies that solve audio problems and give your audio experience more bass, more EQ, and more fun.

” … The announcement with the biggest implications down the road was the unveiling of WebM, an open-source, royalty-free video codec based on VP8. It’s being positioned as the standard for video in HTML5 rather than the proprietary H.264 or the royalty-free but problematic Theora. Yep, you with the glazing eyes: Adoption of H.264 could mean fees imposed on content distributors and providers, though so far the license holders have waived collection. Those license holders include Microsoft and Apple — and Apple is the notable abstainer in the chorus of support for VP8. Could get interesting . ”

World’s Largest DVR Records 50 Shows At Once, Saves 13 Years of TV

(thanks to Gizmodo.com)
You would need 326 TiVo Premiere boxes to match what the Snapstream DVR can do with just one coax plug.
This Snapstream DVR is basically just a tech demo—but it’s one hell of a tech demo. Loaded with 50 analog tuners, it can pull and record 50 channels, simultaneously, from your cable feed onto 136TB of storage—which is capable of saving 115,200 hours of recorded TV (or 13 years worth of content to watch).
Put differently, you could record 50 channels in your cable package for 96 days straight.
The system is driven by a 1U dual-processor quad-core Nehalem Xeon server with “a ton of RAM.”
So what would this beast cost were Snapstream to actually sell it? Well a 4 to 10 tuner system with 3-15TB of storage goes for $12,000. I’m guessing you can scale that cost appropriately, then add plenty of ??? to the price since it’d be a custom job.
Google TV co-stars include Intel, Sony, Logitech
(thanks to GMSV)
By JOHN MURRELL
Last week brought word that Google was working with Dish Network on applying its search expertise to the television and online video landscape (see “Google channels resources into TV search”). But considering earlier comments from the Googleplex about how the Android operating system would fit very nicely into set-top boxes and TV sets, you had to figure there was more going on than just that. And according to a report today in the New York Times, there is.
The Times says the search sovereign is developing an open, Android-based platform called Google TV, aiming to bring Web content and services to the living-room screen with the help of hardware manufacturers and software developers. On board already, according to the report, are Intel, which has been looking to get its Atom chip into next-generation TVs; Sony, seeking a jump on its competitors; and Logitech, tapped to work on peripherals, including a keyboard-equipped remote. The Times’ sources said the project, which would employ a version of Google’s Chrome Web browser, has been under way for several months and has produced a prototype set-top box. A software toolkit for outside programmers is expected to be made available before summer. None of the companies is commenting, but the Times noted that both Intel and Logitech have job postings up for positions requiring some Android experience. Among the rivals Google will face in TV-Web integration: its ally-turned-enemy Apple, which by its own acknowledgment has been treating its Apple TV product as “a hobby” … so far.
